We are traveling together to guard against any criticism. . . . We are careful to be honorable before the Lord, but we also want everyone else to see that we are honorable.

2 Corinthians 8:20-21

Store my commands in your heart. . . . Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation.

SOME PEOPLE care too much about what others think of them. Others couldn’t care less about the opinion of those around them. How does God want us to view our reputation? His Word says having a good reputation is honorable. It is important to work hard, be kind and loyal, and live morally excellent lives—not to please others, but to please God. Our relationship with God determines our reputation; our focus on loving God and loving others will become what we are known for. If you care too much about the opinions of others, remind yourself that what matters most is not what others think of you but what God thinks of you. And if you care too little about your reputation, remember that God calls you to be a light to those around you.
