repentance - What is repentance and why is it so important?

When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.

Psalm 32:3-5

There is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.

REPENTANCE is the decision to make a U-turn away from the wrong and toward the good. Sometimes we take a wrong turn in life and end up on a dangerous path. But admitting our sin before God can change the direction of our lives. Repentance has the power to remove our guilt, restore our joy, and heal our broken souls. When we have truly repentant hearts, we feel remorse for our sin and want to commit to a new way of life—that of serving God. When God forgives our sins, our life journey moves to a new direction without looking back. Do you long to turn away from something in order to turn back to God? His Word promises that he will show mercy and great patience to those who come back to him. It only takes one step.
