Needs - 365 Questions for a Woman's Soul

needs - How can I keep a clear distinction between my needs and my wants?

The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need.

Psalm 23:1

If we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.

1 Timothy 6:8

Give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs.

Proverbs 30:8

IN ORDER TO SURVIVE and thrive on this earth, all people have basic needs: food, water, shelter, and love. If you have these basic things, consider yourself blessed because there are many throughout the world who lack them due to the nature of our fallen world. So if there are people who don’t have such things as food and shelter, what does it mean when God says he will give us everything we need? Perhaps God’s definition of needs and wants is different from ours. In God’s mind, persevering in our faith and having a close relationship with him are what we need most. Confusing wants with needs takes our focus off of what is really important. When we want something beyond our basic needs, we will be dissatisfied, discontent, greedy, and impatient when we don’t get it. If you find yourself struggling with whether something is a need or a want, ask God to reveal to you what holds eternal importance.
