MERCY is undeserved favor. And God’s mercy is beyond anything we’ve ever experienced. He not only exempts us from the punishment for our sins, he also gives us the undeserved gift of salvation. Our rebellion against God deserves his punishment, but instead he offers us forgiveness and eternal life. Even more, God’s mercies never end. He never stops giving us his undivided attention and his faithful presence, as well as spiritual gifts, provision for our needs, and hope for our future—all undeserved and yet lavishly poured out in our lives. It is by his mercies that our very lives are sustained. Every breath is a merciful gift from an all-loving God. God’s mercy changes our perspective when we understand what it feels like to be loved even when we have not loved in return. Allow this truth to inspire you toward living with gratitude and loving others the same way that God loves you.
