Moses said, “This is what the LORD has commanded: Fill a two-quart container with manna to preserve it for your descendants. Then later generations will be able to see the food I gave you in the wilderness when I set you free from Egypt.”

Exodus 16:32

We will use these stones to build a memorial. In the future your children will ask you, “What do these stones mean?” Then you can tell them, “They remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant went across.”

Joshua 4:6-7

IT IS EASY to forget the work and blessings of God in our lives, especially when hard times come along. But God knows that humans are forgetful and has graciously given us the Bible as the record of his work in history. Reading it reminds us of who God is and what he has done. As the Israelites set up stones to remind them of God’s miraculous parting of the Jordan River, we can find creative ways to remind ourselves of God’s work. We can celebrate special anniversaries, write in spiritual journals, sing worship songs, or tell stories to remind ourselves of God’s blessing in our lives. What can you do today to show God’s faithfulness to future generations? The legacy you leave behind could significantly impact the spiritual lives of many generations to follow.
