Drifting
drifting - How can I avoid drifting away from God?
Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!
Matthew 26:41
We must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.
Hebrews 2:1
Come close to God, and God will come close to you.
James 4:8
Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.
James 1:14-15
DRIFTING means taking a step away from God in our spiritual walk, falling back into a sinful lifestyle or habit that slowly causes separation in our relationship with God. Each time we drift away, we grow more comfortable with the sinful habit we have given in to and our hearts become a bit harder, making it more difficult to come back to him. But each time we obey God’s Word, each time we offer a prayer, and each time we remind ourselves to be alert to temptation, we will take a step toward God rather than away. Remember, it takes discipline and intentionality to stay close to God. It sounds simple, and in some ways it is. Choose each day to take a small step toward God. Read his Word, pray instead of engaging in something else, sing a song of praise, or simply remind yourself of his presence.
