doubting God - Is it a sin to doubt God?

When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

Psalm 94:19

John the Baptist, who was in prison, heard about all the things the Messiah was doing. So he sent his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?”

Matthew 11:2-3

Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed [Peter]. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?”

Matthew 14:31

God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”

Hebrews 13:5

“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”

Mark 9:23-24

DAVID, John the Baptist, Peter, and many other biblical leaders struggled with doubts about God and his ability to help them. This doesn’t mean they had less faith than others, but it does mean their faith was challenged. Doubt can become sin if it leads us away from God into skepticism, cynicism, or hard-heartedness. But doubt can be beneficial when our honest searching leads us to a better understanding of God and deepens our faith in him. Allow your doubts to move you closer to God, not further away from him. Recognize and acknowledge your doubts before God and ask him to help you in your unbelief.
