Distractions

distractions - What can I do when I get distracted during prayer?

Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.

Colossians 4:2

O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. . . . Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Psalm 139:1, 23-24

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion.

Ephesians 6:18

SOMETIMES prayer feels frustrating because we can have trouble focusing. However, God wants us to pray about everything—even our distractions. When something else comes to mind while we are praying, we can stop and talk to God about it. We shouldn’t be afraid to pray about what is on our minds even if it seems trivial, insignificant, or embarrassing. If you feel free to share anything with your closest friend, how much more freedom might you have to share with God, your Creator, who loves you unconditionally? Allow yourself to trust that God is eager to have a conversation about whatever is on your heart.
