Busyness

busyness - How does God feel about my busy lifestyle?

All our busy rushing ends in nothing.

Psalm 39:6

Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon, for you don’t know if profit will come from one activity or another—or maybe both.

Ecclesiastes 11:6

Be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. . . . Be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 5:15-18

Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.

Psalm 90:12

THE LORD honors those who work hard and make the most of every opportunity. And sometimes doing a job well requires a lot of work and busyness. Busyness becomes dangerous only if our activities replace real accomplishment or if we are neglecting God or the people in our care. The key to overcoming empty busyness is to be fully productive for God. We do this by understanding his call and purpose for our lives and prioritizing our activities around them. Ask yourself what you are busying yourself with and if it will further God’s Kingdom or your own. Let go of what doesn’t need to get done today to instead accomplish what God is calling you to. Remember, God will empower you to make the most of the time he’s given you.

Prayer Prompts

Your Word calls me instead to live this way: . . .
