Balance

balance - How do I balance caring for others and caring for myself?

Give according to what you have, not what you don’t have. Of course, I don’t mean your giving should make life easy for others and hard for yourselves. I only mean that there should be some equality. Right now you have plenty and can help those who are in need. Later, they will have plenty and can share with you when you need it. In this way, things will be equal.

2 Corinthians 8:12-14

Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat.

Mark 6:31

MANY WOMEN desire to find a perfect balance between caring for others and caring for themselves. However, life usually isn’t balanced; rather, it flows in seasons. Some seasons will be spent taking care of others, like when we have young children or are helping an elderly relative or a friend who is ill. Other seasons will allow more time for self-care. No matter what season we are in, we can look to Jesus as our example. He spent the majority of his time caring for those close to him. However, he also regularly set aside time to rest with God. Even with all the needs around him, he knew when it was time to get away. How attentive are you to the state of your soul as you care for others? When you begin to feel overwhelmed and worn out, schedule time to rest with God. Allow him to care for you so that your care for others will flow from a refreshed soul.
