A Prayer When In Doubt
A prayer when in Doubt
When I wonder if my doubts mean I have less faith
Dear God of the universe,
I’m struggling with doubt, and that worries me. Is my faith ebbing? As I read your Word, though, it strikes me how many “pillars of the faith” had moments of great doubt. In most cases they didn’t have less faith at those moments, but instead their faith was being challenged in new ways. As I face my own doubts, I wonder if that is what is happening to me. Maybe my moments of doubt aren’t shaking my faith but challenging it to grow stronger. Doubts put me in new territory, where life is uncertain and unknown. But my uncertainty in one area shouldn’t cause me to reject what I know for sure in another area. So, Lord, because of my certainty in who you are—the loving and gracious God of all things—please use my doubts to move me closer to you, not further away.
Jesus told [Thomas], “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”
John 20:29
