A Prayer Of Self-denial
A prayer of Self-denial
Am I willing to make sacrifices to follow Jesus?
Dear Jesus,
You call me to take up my cross and follow you. Oh, how I want to follow you. But I need your help to break the self-centered desires that tie me to this world. Motivate me to exercise self-discipline in the way I live. Give me the willingness to deny self-centered attitudes for the sake of obeying you. Provide me with the courage to give up some things that are getting in the way of my obedience. Jesus, if you asked me, would I be willing to give up everything for you? Oh, I hope my answer would be yes. Though you may never ask that, please produce in me the willing attitude that you love so much in those who follow you.
Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.” Matthew 16:24-25
