A prayer for Accountability

When I don’t want accountability, but I need it

Dear God,

You know my secret habits and private thoughts that I wouldn’t dare share with anyone else. But that’s the problem, isn’t it? To break free from what I keep in the hidden places of my heart, I need to expose the darkness in me to the spotlight of your truth. When things are out in the open, I will have to deal with them. Please give me the courage to be accountable, not only for what I do, but for my thoughts and attitudes. I know this will be painful, but if I have no accountability, I will continue to sink into more destructive thoughts and habits. My secret sins will eat away at my character and integrity until my reputation crashes down around me. Without accountability, I wouldn’t even see it coming. And so, Lord, please send me a wise friend or mentor to keep me accountable. Don’t let the darkness take over my heart. I want to live in your light.

If another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. Share each other’s burdens. Galatians 6:1-2
