A prayer of Humility

When I recognize the sacrifice that God has made for me

Dear God,

I am humbled because I have recognized the sin in my life. Before, I was prideful, which gave the devil inroads to my heart. But now, God, in humility I want to give you my whole heart. This humility comes from sorrow over my sin as well as my recognition of the sacrifice Jesus made to free me from it. I openly admit that I need you, God, and I seek your forgiveness—something I could never have done in my proud state. I give you my whole heart and ask that you would open me up to be used for your purposes in all times and places.

He gives us even more grace to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but favors the humble.” So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. . . . Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor. James 4:6-10
