A Prayer About Significance

A prayer about Significance

When I feel small and insignificant

Almighty God,

Deep within my heart is the longing to matter. I want my life to count, to make a difference, to be worth something. Everywhere I look, I see others who are more successful, more gifted, more this, more that. No wonder I feel insignificant! I admit that often I spend far more time paralyzed by what I cannot do than acting on what I can do. My inabilities overshadow my abilities. But one of the great lessons of your Word is that the heroes of the faith—people like Moses, Gideon, Esther, and Peter—were ordinary people who learned that their significance came not from what they could accomplish with their abilities, but from what you could accomplish through their abilities. I am significant because I am a unique creation made in your image, almighty God. You have given me specific abilities that you want me to use for a bigger purpose. It’s amazing that when I use my gifts to accomplish your work, my life becomes significant both now and for eternity.

My life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God. Acts 20:24
