A prayer about Unity
When I wonder if real unity is possible
Dear Jesus,
Why am I so quick to judge others who are different rather than embracing and celebrating their differences? Why am I intimidated by anyone who doesn’t share my opinion? Your Word says that each person is unique, so I shouldn’t be surprised by differences of opinion. In fact, because your Word emphasizes unity within the church, our differences must serve some important goal. Please teach me how to embrace different people and opinions for the sake of a shared goal. I know that I often hinder unity because I’m so convinced that my ideas are best. This mind-set keeps me from listening to new opinions that might actually inform my own for the better. Jesus, teach me to celebrate others’ differences. Open my heart and soften it toward others. I long to experience the true unity you designed humans to share and enjoy.
You are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:26-28
