A Prayer Of Commitment
A prayer of Commitment
When I’m ready to count the cost of being committed to God
My Lord and my God,
I’ve heard it said that I have to do “whatever it takes” if I want to be fully committed to a cause or achieve an important goal. That makes me wonder if I am doing “whatever it takes” to be your disciple. Do I truly grasp the nature of the commitment? Help me to understand the sacrifice that is needed for me to be a fully devoted follower of Jesus. Lord, I want you to be the central commitment of my life. May all other relationships and pursuits be considered in light of that. Please show me if my commitment to you is being diluted by obligations to other people, things, goals, or activities. Help me to evaluate each of my commitments by asking myself, “Is this worthy of my time and energy in light of my complete commitment to Jesus?”
If you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple. But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it? Luke 14:27-28
