A prayer in Sorrow

When I’m in deep distress

Heavenly Father,

I am going through my own Valley of Weeping. Like everyone’s, my life has included many times of struggle and tears. Tragic losses affect me profoundly. Your Word acknowledges that sorrow and grief are part of human life, and faith in you does not keep me from going through difficult times. Rather, my faith enables me to walk through those times and grow stronger along the way. I take heart in the knowledge that sorrow does not have the last word. I have great hope in your promise to redeem my losses in heaven. In your promises of eternal life, I find the hope and comfort to carry me through life’s valleys.

What joy for those whose strength comes from the LORD, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings. They will continue to grow stronger, and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem. Psalm 84:5-7
