A prayer for the Power Of God

When I long to experience God’s power working through me

Almighty God,

I am trying to imagine being in the midst of the earth’s strongest earthquake, tallest tsunami, wildest volcano, and most devastating hurricane—all at the same time. I’m certain this cannot even begin to compare to your power! You are the creator of all these phenomena, and what is created is never more powerful than the Creator. But you are also the same God who has the power to calm the storms in my heart, to dry up a flood of fear, to quench the lust for sin, and to control the whirlwinds in my life. Grant me the humility to put more trust in your power than my own. Don’t let my resources get in the way so that I fail to rely on you. May your power flow through me like an electric current flows through a wire. The wire is simply a conductor; it has no power in itself. But without the wire, the current doesn’t go anywhere. Let me be a person who is willing to be wired for your service so that I can be a conduit of your love, help, and grace to those around me.

We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. 2 Corinthians 4:7
