A prayer for Discipline

When I need to develop the discipline of obeying God

Dear Lord,

I want to cultivate the discipline of obedience; no, I want to begin to love obeying you with all my heart. It is so difficult to make obedience to you and your Word a regular habit. I am frustrated by my constant drift toward the temptations that cause me to sin. Lord, please show me how to be inclined toward obedience, not sin. Motivate me to focus on your Scripture—to love to open its pages and meditate on its life-giving truths. Give me the desire to teach its truths to others so that I might apply them more thoroughly. Show me opportunities to talk about what you are doing in my life so that I can be a living testimony. May obedience become a path I have traveled so far that I could never go back another way.

Commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Write them on the doorposts of your house. Deuteronomy 11:18-20
