A Prayer For Perseverance

A prayer for Perseverance

When I need the perseverance to get through tough times

Dear Lord,

In the middle of my problems I often want to give up. How do I see my way through to the end? I need more perseverance. I have heard perseverance defined as “courage stretched out.” I guess that means that although you sometimes deliver your people out of difficult or painful circumstances, you often call us to faithfulness in the midst of trials. And according to your Word, perseverance is not just enduring difficult situations; it is overcoming them with obedience, hope, and joy. If I don’t learn to persevere through my struggles, I will fall into the habit of giving up. Please help me, Lord, to persevere until I come out on the other side. Doing that will strengthen my faith. Then I will more clearly see the benefits of obeying you, and I will develop confidence that when problems come again, I will get through them with your help.

We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. 2 Corinthians 1:8-9
