A prayer about Mystery

When I wonder about the ambiguities of my faith

Almighty God,

How I praise you that you always act justly and rightly. Your truth never changes, so I can count on you to keep your Word. And yet I also praise you for moving in unpredictable and mysterious ways. Your plans sometimes defy human logic—and for good reason. If I could know you completely, if I could predict your every move, then I would be equal to you. I don’t need a God who is my equal; I need to worship a God who is far beyond my capabilities in every way. Your mysterious aspects teach me to respect you and show you the reverence you deserve. Thank you that the Christian life involves continually learning spiritual truths about you as your Spirit reveals them. May I be open to going wherever you lead, while trusting that your perfect character will always stay the same. Only you, O Lord, are worthy of my praise and worship.
