A Prayer About Worth
A prayer about Worth
When I struggle with my sense of self-worth
O Lord,
I come before you feeling not so good about myself. Where do I get my sense of self-worth? Do I need to look attractive to feel good about myself? Do I need a big accomplishment that everyone notices? Do I need a job that impresses my friends? Do I need a lot of things to add value to my life? This is a precarious way to live, but I am afraid I am doing exactly this—equating my worth with something I have or something I’ve done. It causes me always to be scrambling after more just to feel good about myself. The worst part is that it keeps my eyes off you, O Lord, the only one who can give my life a real sense of worth. I am amazed at how much you value me! You created me and knew me intimately before I was even born. And you loved me so much, you rescued me from eternal punishment for my sins through Jesus’ death and resurrection. No matter what I do or possess, it pales in comparison to the value of my relationship with you, Lord. Thank you for your love, forgiveness, and grace to me. You are worthy of my praise, gratitude, and love in return.
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. Psalm 139:17
