A prayer about Worship

When I wonder if God is first in my life

Dear God,

I worship you, but do I worship you alone? Or do I have idols that are really more important to me than you? What about sports, hobbies, TV, or video games? Am I more devoted to spending time with them than with you? I know that you created human beings for worship. We can’t help but devote ourselves to someone or something, and we order our priorities around the object of our devotion. But your Word teaches that you alone are worthy of our worship. True worship, then, is recognizing who you are and who I am in relation to you. Ultimately, everything I do should be based on what I think of you, Almighty God, and how I worship you. If I’m not giving honor to you, then I am worshiping someone or something else. O God, may I worship only you. More than anything else, worship will connect me with you. And you are my only source of lasting hope and joy.

Shout with joy to the LORD, all the earth! Worship the LORD with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the LORD is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalm 100:1-4
