A prayer of Anticipation

When I long for heaven

God in heaven,

You reveal just enough about your eternal home to give me something to anticipate with joy. How I long for the day when I will see and experience the place you have prepared for all believers! This anticipation encourages me to love and obey you so this life will prepare me for all you have planned in eternity. I know there is much work to be done yet on earth, and only you know when my life will come to an end and I will enter heaven. Like everyone, I dream of moments of joy and times of real rest. You have promised that these will come. Yes, God, I am eager to see what you have planned for me.

We live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. 1 Peter 1:3-6
