A Prayer About Prayer

A prayer about Prayer

When I desire to have a conversation with God

Dear God,

This is our time to talk together. I’ve come to love these times because you’ve taught me that there is so much more to prayer than just getting an answer to a question or a solution for a problem. My heart is often more changed through the act of praying than it is by the answer I receive. Thank you that I can be raw before you, and I often am as I honestly pour out my heart to you, confess my sins, express my pain and frustrations, make requests, and share what is happening in my life. Just telling you how I feel often makes me feel closer to you. Sometimes you lead me to praise you by showing me all you’ve done in my life or by teaching me about yourself. But God, you’ve also shown me that good conversation includes listening. When I stop and listen, you have the opportunity to share your wisdom with me, and I often gain a greater understanding of myself, my situation, my motivation, your nature, and your direction for my life. Before I end this prayer, I will take a few moments to listen respectfully for your voice. Whether or not you speak to me now, I will be thankful that you are here to share in this moment.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
