A Prayer About Neglect
A prayer about Neglect
When I’ve been avoiding God
Lord,
I have been neglectful of you and many of the things you have asked me to do. I often use the same excuse, claiming that it doesn’t feel like the right time to start the practice of daily Bible study, to begin tithing, to share the gospel with a non-Christian friend, or to stop a sinful habit. If I’m honest with myself, my issue isn’t timing—it’s priority. Lord, I see now that any excuse for neglecting my relationship with you is merely a cloak for a fearful spirit or a stubborn heart. Forgive me for abandoning you and the responsibilities and privileges that come from being a part of your family. Where my spirit is fearful, restore my trust in you. Where my heart is stubborn, soften it for you. Instead of making excuses, I want to be devoted to serving you. Help me understand what things compete for priority in my life. May we together root them out so that you will regain your rightful place in my heart—as my number one priority.
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33
