A Prayer About Memories

A prayer about Memories

When I’m haunted by memories from my past

Dear God,

It is virtually impossible for me to obey you because I am still holding on to old memories of a sinful lifestyle and longing to do the things I did before I found you. I feel like I’m trying to walk in two directions at once! God, you want me to turn away completely from the sinful habits and memories of my old life so I can experience the life you offer me. What plans of yours am I missing by allowing myself to look back at the past? When I commit myself to looking forward, with my eyes fixed on heaven, it will change the way I live. It is only by embracing your plans and my eternal future—rather than clinging to the past—that I will be able to overcome the memories that keep me from walking forward in obedience to you.

The kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. 2 Corinthians 7:10
