A prayer about Love

When I feel I need to earn God’s love

God,

How freeing to know that your love is never something I can earn. It is a gift. If I compare my works to the deeds of those around me, I may feel I need to do more to be a better Christian. But obedience is not a prerequisite for your love. I obey you because I am already loved by you, not in order to be loved by you. Love and obedience become a refreshing cycle in our relationship. As I see you at work in my life every day, I am moved to greater obedience. The more I obey, the more joy I experience. Lord God, let the cycle continue today by showing me what small step of obedience I can take right now.

When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love. . . . I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! John 15:10-11
