A Prayer About Distractions

A prayer about Distractions

When I feel sidetracked in serving God

God in heaven,

In many ways, I feel like my life is on hold right now. I feel so limited in my ministry for you. I had high hopes for all I would do for you, but then I wound up in a different place. Why, God? Why this situation that seems like a distraction from my true calling? You’ve reminded me about Paul and Silas when they were in prison. I would consider a jail sentence a definite distraction from my ability to serve you. Not Paul and Silas! Their location didn’t keep them from their mission. They had been involved in a great ministry traveling around the world; now they were confined to a small room with a very small audience. But instead of pushing away the distraction, Paul and Silas embraced it, and you used them mightily! Sometimes being sidetracked seems as restricting as a jail cell. But God, maybe you want me to focus for a while on who and what is right in front of me. What I see as a distraction may actually be a calling from you to minister to new people in a new place. Lord, help me to let go of my expectations and to embrace this divine distraction.

Accept the way God does things, for who can straighten what he has made crooked? Ecclesiastes 7:13
