A prayer about Desires

When I wonder if it is okay to want something

Dear Lord,

Is it okay to really want something? Did you create my desires as a way for me to express myself, or are they wrong and selfish? Lord, may my desires be fueled by right motives and directed toward things that are good, right, and God honoring. Then I will know they must be okay. For example, I can see that the desire to love is healthy and right when it is directed toward my spouse. But that same desire for sexual intimacy directed toward anyone else would be adultery. The desire to lead an organization is healthy if my motive is to serve others, but wrong if my motive is to gain control over others. May my greatest desire be for a close relationship with you, O God, for I know this will influence all my other desires.

I desire you more than anything on earth. Psalm 73:25
