A Prayer About Criticism

A prayer about Criticism

When I need to offer constructive criticism

Dear God,

I don’t like criticism, even when it is constructive, but sometimes I need it. Help me to welcome constructive criticism so that I can become more like the person you created me to be. It is much easier to receive someone else’s assessment when it is offered gently and in love rather than in a harsh or humiliating way. Please remind me to offer criticism the same way I would like to receive it. I don’t want to judge; that is evaluating others with no intent to see them improve. When I offer constructive criticism, may my goal be to help that person become who you created him or her to be. When I must criticize, may it not be a discouraging experience in that person’s life but rather a divine moment of positive change.

Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? Matthew 7:1-3
