A Prayer About Conformity

A prayer about Conformity

When I’ve been doing what’s popular rather than what is godly

Dear God,

The society I live in imposes its shape on me. It tries to mold me into its way of looking, thinking, and behaving. The mold is strong, and at times I have even lived in fear of breaking it. But that approach has consequences. I realize now that my life has not taken the shape you intended for me. Unfortunately, culture rarely values your standards. Many people say, “I’m going to do what I want. I don’t care what people say.” But I believe in you, God. I know that my task is to conform to your way of thinking and acting, even when it goes against what’s popular. I have a special responsibility to act as your representative. If my actions are not consistent with my faith, I could cause others to question your life-changing power to mold me into your masterpiece. My conformity to your ways reveals my freedom from cultural influence. May my behavior cause others to ask about my faith as they see me living out your ways. Reshape me into your image, and cause my life to take on the form you intended for me.

O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand. Isaiah 64:8
