A Prayer About Comparison
A prayer about Comparison
When I need to resist comparing myself to others
God,
I’m constantly dwelling on one question: “How do I measure up?” This is one area where Satan has a foothold, and I know he is continually trying to convince me that my worth is based on how I compare to others in appearance, possessions, accomplishments, or social status. No wonder I constantly feel either inadequate and envious or full of pride. I’m tired of fighting this useless battle with myself. O God, I need to center my thoughts on your truth and your standards. Measured against your holiness, everyone falls short and is humbled; but in your eyes, every person is valued and loved—even me. I’m thankful that you never compare me with others, and because of that, neither should I. Help me to enjoy your grace, which has no comparison, and bask in the ways that you shower me with kindness and love. O God, my value is found in you alone.
Oh, that my actions would consistently reflect your decrees! Then I will not be ashamed when I compare my life with your commands. Psalm 119:5-6
