A Prayer About Betrayal

A prayer about Betrayal

When a friend betrays me

Jesus,

I have been betrayed by my friend. Oh, how I want to retaliate. I want vengeance! Only through your power can I respond with love instead. Betrayal is an inevitable part of the human experience. Even you, dear Jesus, were betrayed. That doesn’t make my betrayal any easier to accept, but it does help me gain perspective. Your response was to forgive your betrayers. Everything in me resists that! Please transform me so that I’m able to forgive, because that’s the only healing for betrayal. No offense against me compares with my own offenses against you, Jesus, before you rescued me from sin. I am a forgiven person who must become a forgiving person. Only then will your power be revealed in me. I am here, and I am open to your transforming power.

“If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.” Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good. Romans 12:20-21
