A Prayer About Apology
A prayer about Apology
When I’m having trouble accepting an apology
Lord Jesus,
Someone who has wronged me has apologized. But rather than accepting her apology, I want to punish her further by lashing out in anger or making her suffer just a little bit more. I know that’s not right. When you walked this earth as a man, you forgave unconditionally, even those who plotted to kill you. Please fill my heart with that kind of unconditional love, which will lead to the complete forgiveness you exemplified. Help me to see that true forgiveness is not grudging or sparing but generous, joyful, and healing. When I accept an apology in this way, it brings healing to my soul. It also creates a divine moment in my friend’s life because she gets to see the same kind of mercy you show me when you forgive my sin. Dear Jesus, may that kind of forgiveness start with me and change the world.
[The son] returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. Luke 15:20
