A Prayer About Apology
A prayer about Apology
When it’s hard to say I’m sorry
Dear God,
Why is it so hard for me to admit when I am wrong? Why are those two simple words, I’m sorry, so hard for me? I know it’s pride. And I know that pride is the most dangerous of all sins, because it convinces me that I don’t need you and that I know best. I need your help to work on my pride. Perhaps the best place to start is to think of those to whom I owe an apology. Apologizing requires me to realize how I have wronged someone—and then to admit it. It’s so tempting to pretend my hurtful words or actions never happened, or that they were justified, or that they weren’t that bad. These are signs that my heart is too proud and I am unwilling to take responsibility for my actions. When was the last time I apologized to someone? It’s been too long, and that in itself is a clear indication that I need a strong dose of humility. O God, please give me the humility to say I’m sorry. Help me to long for the reconciliation, forgiveness, healing, and respect that only come from a humble heart. I confess my pride to you and ask for a heart with the courage to be able to say I’m sorry.
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Ephesians 4:2
