A Prayer About Adversity

A prayer about Adversity

When God feels far away

Dear God,

Sometimes when I am faced with great adversity I feel like asking, “Where are you when I need you most?” But I know the answer is always the same—you are right beside me. You are here, providing the power to help me cope. Isaiah 43:2 says, “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you,” so I understand that you don’t promise to remove all my troubles. Adversity is a natural consequence of living in a fallen world. Lord, I understand that if you always kept me from struggle or granted my every wish, I would follow you for the wrong reasons. But I thank you that my struggles are not wasted. You use them to sharpen my character and strengthen my faith in you. I take comfort in your promises to be with me in my troubles and to give me wisdom to cope, strength to conquer my problems, and understanding to see how I might become stronger as I learn to trust you.

The LORD is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him. Nahum 1:7
