A Prayer About Criticism
A prayer about Criticism
When I need a more teachable heart
O God,
I confess I do not take criticism well. I’m so quick to defend myself or prove myself right. But your Word says that rejecting correction is the hallmark of a fool, and a core attribute of wisdom is a teachable heart. That’s what I need—a teachable heart. Why am I always convinced that my way is best or my opinion is right? How often have I dismissed helpful criticism because I didn’t want to admit I could be wrong? I know that comes from my stubborn human nature. But what if I looked at advice as a guidepost to keep me from pursuing the wrong path? O God, humble me so I can hear your voice—whether through the gentle rebuke of a trusted friend or in the advice of godly people. I’m listening, God, and I trust that you will help me discern wise correction. Please don’t allow my wounded pride to reject constructive criticism that will help me grow.
Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others. A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted. An honest witness tells the truth; a false witness tells lies. Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing. Proverbs 12:15-18
