A prayer about Thoughts

When I wonder whether my thoughts matter

Lord God,

I try to be careful about what I do, because I want to please you and because I want to be a good witness to others. I have to admit that I’m much less careful about what I think. No one can see or hear my thoughts, after all. Do they really matter? But your Word tells me that what is in my mind is crucial because it’s in my thoughts that actions and words have their beginning. Forgive me, Lord, for letting my thoughts have free rein. Please give me the self-discipline to stop thinking about things that are ungodly. Control my heart, Lord, and inspire my mind to produce godly thoughts, which will in turn produce godly actions.

It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. Mark 7:20-22
