A prayer about the Holy Spirit

When I’m struggling to pray

Heavenly Father,

I am so upset, confused, and overwhelmed that I don’t even know what to say to you. But I take great comfort in the fact that you hear, understand, and respond to my prayers, even when they’re not polished or articulate. You see my heart, and you know me to the core. When I don’t know what to ask for or even how to communicate my great need, I rest in the assurance from your Word that your Holy Spirit helps me pray. At times like these I lean on him—he understands my deepest longings and expresses them to you on my behalf. Thank you, God, for this remarkable reassurance that even in my deepest grief or greatest confusion, I am heard and understood.

The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. Romans 8:26-27
