A prayer about Temptation

When I need to resist temptation

Lord God,

I’m often tempted to sin. I know that’s part of being human; after all, even Jesus faced temptation when he was on earth. But I want to do everything I can to keep from succumbing. Help me, Lord, to work to strengthen my faith before temptation comes. I’m determined to stand firm in my commitment to you, but I need your help to keep that commitment. Show me when I need to avoid areas of temptation or even to physically flee from compromising situations. Keep me aware that Satan will strike where I am weakest, so help me to recognize where I am vulnerable. Keep me alert, watching for temptation and praying for the strength to resist it. Then when it does come, I will be well prepared to withstand it.

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. 1 Corinthians 10:13
