A prayer about Surrender

When I need to surrender to God to find true victory

Lord God,

I’m fighting two battles in my spiritual life, and surrender plays a part in both of them. One fight is against sin. Without your help, I surrender to sin and its deadly consequences. Thank you for your Holy Spirit within me, who will give me the power to resist sin’s control. I’m ashamed to admit that my second spiritual battle is sometimes fighting against you and your will for me. I know it’s foolish, but I do it because I’m trying to hold on to the illusion that I have some control over my life. In this case, surrender is necessary and positive. I never want to give in to sin, Lord, but please soften my heart so that I will freely give in to you. Help me to realize how powerless I am to defeat sin on my own. I know that only when I give you control of my life will I find true victory.

My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20
