A Prayer About Rest

A prayer about Rest

When I need rest

Loving God,

So often I fall into the trap of living in a state of frenzied activity. I take pride in telling others how busy I am, and I feel guilty if I relax. But this isn’t the way you created me to live! You set the example when you rested after creating the world. Your Word makes clear that you want me to take time for rest and refreshment for my body and soul. In Genesis you call rest “holy.” Teach me, Lord, to rest—to stop working so that I may care for my physical and spiritual needs. I spend so much time taking care of others, but I need to pay attention to the health of my own soul too. If I neglect this, I will miss hearing your still, small voice and seeing you work in my heart. My life will become all busyness, and I’ll miss out on the deeper meaning and purpose my life should have. I so deeply desire the refreshment you provide. Please give me the self-discipline to carve out regular times for worship and spiritual refreshment.

The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Psalm 23:1-3
