A Prayer About Priorities

A prayer about Priorities

When I wonder how to set the right priorities

O Lord,

My life often skips from one “urgent” interruption to another. And all the while I keep missing what is really important. I need your wisdom to figure out what things matter most in life. How can I distinguish true priorities from false ones? I know that often I confuse what’s urgent—such as a ringing phone or a pressing deadline—with what’s important—such as a deep spiritual conversation with a friend, an opportunity to read a Bible story with my child, or a quiet moment in prayer. I need your help, Lord, to set my priorities at the start of every day. Guard me from letting everyone else decide what my day should look like; that’s between you and me, and I need to decide that prayerfully with your help. As I make time with you the first priority of each day, grant me your perspective on the rest of my activities. Amid the busyness and clamor of the frequent interruptions I face, keep me calm and focused on the things that are really important—the things that will last forever.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33
