A prayer about Peace

When I need relief during life’s storms

Lord God,

So many things invade my life and affect my sense of peace—conflict, uncertainty, busyness, worry, and fear, to name just a few. Today I feel overcome with anxiety and stress. I’m sinking, Lord! How can I possibly have peace when I’m experiencing all this? Help me to fix my mind on Jesus’ promise to his disciples: that he was leaving them with peace of mind and heart. That promise is for me, too, and I cling to it today as if it’s a lifeline. I can’t prevent difficulties from invading my life, but you remind me that I don’t have to worry about the ultimate outcome. I know that you are in charge; the future is certain. May that give me a quiet, unshakable confidence. May the assurance of your love and your plan keep me from panicking, even in the midst of today’s storms.

[Jesus said,] “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again.” John 14:27-28
