A prayer about Comfort

When I consider how God comforts me

Lord God,

When I am brokenhearted and in need of comfort, you don’t always act the way I might expect. Sometimes I anticipate that you’ll comfort me by providing things I want or by changing my circumstances, but instead, your comfort often comes through your presence. And what better way is there? After all, circumstances are temporary, but you are eternal. My needs and wants are constantly changing, but you never change. Material things can provide comfort for a time, but you are the only source of comfort at all times. Whenever I need comfort, Lord, I’m awed that you show up—not with presents, but with your abiding presence.

Let all who fear the LORD repeat: “His faithful love endures forever.” In my distress I prayed to the LORD, and the LORD answered me and set me free. The LORD is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me? Yes, the LORD is for me; he will help me. Psalm 118:4-7
