A Prayer About Patience
A prayer about Patience
When I need to develop patience
Lord,
I tend to think that patience is a personality trait—something each person either has or lacks. But I’m beginning to learn that patience is a by-product of your presence and work in the human heart. Please help me to understand that it’s not something I can achieve all at once; it comes through perseverance and endurance. The most difficult circumstances may be the very ones that stretch my patience and enable it to grow. I encounter frustrating situations every day with my family, my neighbors, or my coworkers, and I want to be able to respond to them with grace and self-control. I know that will come as my patience increases. Encourage me as I take small, faithful steps day by day to cultivate patience. As I do that, I will become more like you.
Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. . . . Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Colossians 3:10, 12
