A prayer about Joy

When I long to experience more joy

Lord God,

I spend a lot of energy trying to find joy, but I know that what I find in happy events is only temporary. Whether my happiness comes from a beautiful day at the park, a loving conversation with my children, or a delicious meal, the event ends and then I need to find something else to keep myself upbeat. It can be exhausting. But your Word tells me that you are the source of the joy that lasts forever. Teach me to follow you and adopt your attitudes so I’ll be able to experience inner joy regardless of my circumstances. I know that no matter what happens, you offer hope. You don’t promise constant happiness; in fact, Jesus told his disciples that they would have trouble in the world. But you do promise lasting joy for me if I faithfully follow you. That’s what I want, Lord. Thank you for the temporary happiness that comes my way, and may I rest in the eternal joy you set before me.

You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever. Psalm 16:11
