A Prayer About Mystery
A prayer about Mystery
When I realize how much I don’t know about God
Almighty God,
Your ways are higher than my ways, and your thoughts are deeper than my thoughts. There is so much about you that I don’t understand; your ways are mysterious to me. But why am I surprised by this? You are all-powerful and all-knowing! If I could completely understand your nature, you would not be the God who inspires my awe. If I knew everything about you or your plans for my life, I wouldn’t need faith. O Father, may I accept that you have shown me all I need to know to believe in you. There is much I can learn as I study your Word, and I’m thankful that following you is a lifelong adventure of discovery. Yet ultimately, even as I pursue learning, I must rest in faith. I entrust myself to you even when I don’t understand. I have faith that one day, in heaven, all mysteries will be revealed.
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” Isaiah 55:8
